Arts & Scraps, a non-profit, provides affordable learning and creative experiences using recycled industrial materials and actively seeks scraps, surplus and seconds. The public "store" and Scrap Junction, 7 interactive centers for adults and children together, are open 19 hours weekly. Workshops for all ages at Arts & Scraps or group sites promote hands-on learning. Products are creative kits and publications. Arts & Scraps also produces activity centers at public and private events. Youth, corporate groups and individuals volunteer to pack kits and assist children at public events.

Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1989. We've served over 2 MILLION children.
What is your primary product or service?
Recycled industrial scraps as learning and creative materials are available through our public store. We also have workshops and hands on activities at our location or yours, group and individual kits and two publications.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Children need to think and solve problems, not just memorize and watch television. Adults that work with children need "stuff" and ideas. We provide both. The Arts & Scraps staff are teachers, artists and small business people, working part time at the non-profit because they believe in the mission.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We make activities, learning and fun affordable using recycled industrial scraps and 12,000 volunteer hours annually.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location. We visit Metro Detroit with the ScrapMobile, a 26' bus and the entire state with the Ten Buck Truck, a walk in cargo van. We are open to partnering with organizations and businesses anywhere in the country.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We're on the east side of Detroit. Take the I-94 Cadieux exit, #223 and immediately turn south. At the first intersection, Harper Ave., turn right. Go 3/4 miles.
